We are enjoying some beautiful weather this Easter long weekend – lots of sunshine and moderate days, cool nights but not enough to be properly cold. I am waiting for the traditional Easter holidays windstorms – one year we lost our trampoline over the house behind us, another year we were absolutely flattened in our tent – but so far so good. There has been a spot of gardening, some family walks, and this afternoon I had the fidgets after too long sitting still and knitting, so I hauled out the bike and cajoled the MOMD into coming with me. I pumped up the tires, dusted off the seat and we headed off down the road and through the park. It was all just lovely until suddenly there was an enormous CRACK and my back tire popped! Apparently sitting in a shed for 5 years with only the occasional outing does not equal tire immortality. So our jaunt was cut short and we turned around and started back home. A very nice gent inquired as to distance and would have offered a lift but as we had only managed to traverse the local park and were still literally only a block away from home we were able to decline his kind offer and wandered home again, cracking bad puns as we went “that put a brake on the journey”, “that popped your bubble”, “the wheels of fate move in mysterious ways” etc etc.
So, one must-do activity this week is a visit to a purveyor of bike tires. What’s up during your holidays?
